Info: Pitched Design and concept for NBC's Olympics Opening Title sequence.
For an athlete to reach his ultimate top, means he has a lot to sacrifice, suffer... he has to go through alot befor he reaches his glory. With this in mind, we came up with a metaphor which relates to the athletes' struggle to reach the top. But it is also a symbol which is a motif in a lot of ancient Chinese poetry; the Lotus Flower.
In the opening sequence we will see the flower growing under water, coming out of the mud. On the background we see that also other Lotus flowers are in "the race" to reach the top. When the top the "race" is over and the flower can bloom to its fullest.We start off at the bottom of the lake, where the scenery is pretty dark. As we follow the Lotus' growth towards the surface the scene gets lighter and lighter untill we reach full sunlight.
